Equilibrium, Nelson Rockefeller State Park, Battery Park City, NYC, 2008.
Equilibrium is a public art installation originally created for the Lily Pond located in the Nelson Rockefeller State Park, Battery Park City, NYC, 2008. The installation, inspired by Art on the Beach, which flourished in Battery Park City in the late 70’s, as well my own growing interest in public art/installation, is made up of a series of blown glass sculptures immersed in the water floating amidst the plant & animal life inhabiting the pond. While seeking to add a bit of curiosity, or playfulness, to the viewer’s day, it also evokes the metaphorical bubble we all live in. It is also intended that these “bubbles” made of sturdy blown glass, never to pop or burst, directly relate to our impact on the environment.
